“It is after severe crises that businesses start thinking about the social component. We saw the first surge in social entrepreneurship in 2014-2015, as a response to the start of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. At that time, many humanitarian and volunteer initiatives appeared, but later, naturally, the number of such initiatives declined. And then the question arises: “What to do next?”
After all, the problems do not disappear and the need to be self-sufficient, independent of donor support, remains. That is, the question arises of combining social impact with profitability. That is why we have established an impact fund to support social entrepreneurs. In our experience, many social entrepreneurs are created by people who are either internally displaced, people with disabilities, or have such relatives in their families, so they understand the problems from the inside like no one else,” said Olena Kalibaba at the forum ‘Entrepreneurship without Barriers: Dialogue between the State, Business, and the Public.’
